Sowing Instructions: pre-chill 4-6 weeks. Sow on to a moist seed sowing compost in a 576 plug tray or similar size cell. Cover lightly with vermiculite and propagate at +15 to +18 °C.
Sowing Time: February to June or September to October. Sow into pots or trays of moist seed compost and cover seed with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Keep at a temperature of between +15+20 °C. After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination can take 1-5 months.
Growing Instructions: when large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5 cm pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 30 cm apart. For best results, provide any ordinary, well-drained soil in full sun.
* Grow the seedlings on at +10+15 °C until they are ready to pot in late summer pot either into a 9 cm pot or put 3 plugs into a 1 or 2 litre pot and over winter under cover in a well ventilated cold glasshouse, polyethilene tunnel or cold frame. Plants should be of saleable size in April-May the following year.
Germination should begin to take place after 10 to 14 days. Maintain a temperature of +15 °C after germination.
